The healthcare field offers a wide array of educational options for young people. An aging population and increased demand for services translates into an abundance of career opportunities for well-trained healthcare workers. Greentree Health Science Academy can give students the edge they need to take advantage of these opportunities.
Sophomores in high school interested in careers in the Health field may apply to the Greentree Health Science Academy for their junior and senior years. This partnership between WCCC, Atrium Medical Center and Miami University leads students to further education and careers in the health care field. Possible career paths include Registered Nursing, Dental Assisting, Medical Information Technology, Radiology Technology, Respiratory Therapy Physician, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician, and many more health career fields.
During the Junior year, students will learn the foundations of health care including medical terminology, allied health and health information systems, and medical office management, medical assisting, and nurse aide training. During the Senior year, students will learn the foundations of phlebotomy, dental assisting, health information management, medical terminology II, and senior internship.
In Junior year, students will complete clinicals at Atrium Medical Center; in Senior year, students will complete clinical assignments at Miami Valley Hospital. Students will have the opportunity to receive up to 20 college credit hours during their two years as students in the Greentree Health Science Academy program.
This program will be located on the Atrium Medical Center campus beginning in the 2011-12 school year.
