School-To-Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is a system for teaching the practical and theoretical aspects of technical and skilled trades needed by business and industry. It combines on-the-job training with related classroom technical instruction. Apprentices train under the direction of experienced craftsmen commonly called "journeymen." Training begins in the first semester of the senior year. It is open to any senior student, 16 years or older, enrolled in a qualified program, and meeting the job placement guidelines.

Internship/Externship

The Internship Program is designed to place students in a trade area where a registered apprentice program is not available. The Externship Program is designed to place students in a trade area environment that is unpaid. Strict rules must be followed governing the training plan, activities, and length of time.

Cooperative Placement

Cooperative placement teams the school and the business community to prepare young people for careers in business and industry. The courses of study for these programs require year-long, on-the-job training in a paid environment. Co-op students take academic courses at WCCC and travel to job sites for lab time, which is a minimum of 15 hours per week in field. The instructor and the employer monitor this employment situation. Students earn grades for job performance through an evaluation by both the employer and the instructor. The year completes with a summary project. Employability skills are a major emphasis.

Early Placement

Early placement provides an opportunity for the student to make a transition from school-trained skills to job skill application under the guidance of the instructor and the employer. Early placement may begin second semester of the senior year and is open to qualified students in any program.

Adult Student Placement

Adult Education students are available to employers for placement. Some programs offer the option of internships and externships.
